THERE is less than a week left to register for the Garmin Malaysia For Runners 2016 event.
Jointly organised by Penang Forward Sports Club and Active Style Concept, the run on June 4 will be flagged off at the Penang Chinese Town Hall.
Closing date for registration is Saturday. A total of 2,025 runners have registered for the event.
The run will pass through the heritage enclave surrounding Komtar, Tanjung Tokong, and Gurney Drive.
Organising chairman Lim Choo Hooi said the event would be divided into two sections — AECO Forerunner half-marathon (21.2km) and the AECO Vivo Fun Run (6.5km).
“Most participants are from Malaysia but we also have runners from the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Australia, Singapore and other countries too,” he said.
Lim said the half-marathon would be flagged off at 5.30am and the cut-off time for them to complete the race is 3.5 hours.
“Participants for the Fun Run will be flagged off at 6.30am and the cut-off time is 1.5 hours,” he said.
“Each will be entitled to a T-shirt, an eCertificate of participation and a quality finisher medal in the shape of the Garmin Forerunner 920XT GPS watch.
“There are also lucky draw prizes up for grabs,” said Lim at a press conference at the Penang Chinese Town Hall.
Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said more than 100 volunteers would be manning the water stations and booths as well as managing the traffic.
Present were AECO Technolo-gies (M) Sdn Bhd business deve-lopment, corporate & marketing division head Vincent Gan and town hall public liaison bureau chairman Dr Kiew Hen Chong.
