The Penang Ultra 100K was officially launched by the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Lim Guan Eng, and has the distinction of being the first ultra-marathon to be held in Penang, Malaysia.
Taking place on Sept 6, 2014, the Penang Ultra 100K comprises 3 categories: the 50km Ultra, 84km Round Island & 100km Challenge. The event is organised by BetterPenang (eYouth Association NGO) and ActifeStyle Concept, and co-organised by the Penang State Government and Penang Island Municipal Council.
The Penang Ultra 100K aims to have a fun, challenging and safe endurance race in Penang and also to give marathoners a challenge to break the marathon distance.
The cut-off times for participants to complete the races are 8.5 hours (50km), 15 hours (84km) and 18 hours (100km). Participants will receive an event singlet (for each race registered), as well as finishing medal and finisher T-shirt for those who completed within the cut-off time.
The 100km Challenge and 84km Round Island courses will start and end at the Esplanade. Runners will run through all 4 corners of the beautiful Penang Island, experiencing the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town, the iconic Penang Bridge, and then to Balik Pulau and down through Teluk Bahang Dam, finally returning to the Esplanade.
Additionally, the 100km Challenge will take you up to Penang Hill, which is a 5km ascend with an elevation of 670m before descending down.
50km Ultra runners will start from at Jalan Sugei Nipah (Balik Pulau), and follow the same route up Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang Dam before ending at the Esplanade. Water stations will be provided every 10km for all 3 categories.
